4 Incredible Weeks in Bali

Bali, Indonesia is a dream destination for many people and it is easy to understand why! Bali offers some of the most beautiful beaches in Asia, world-class surfing, ancient temples, beautiful culture, and amazing people.

We got married in August, and took the opportunity of a lifetime to go to Bali for one month! I have been working hard on our Bali travel guides since our journey, and this post is the culmination of our month in Bali.

You can use this 4 week itinerary to plan your next trip to Bali. Everything below includes detail on our favorite activities, insight into the best food, and some fun photos! Here are each of the beautiful destinations that we visited:

This map and blog post showcase the places we visited on our month trip in Bali, however, there are many other places to see and things to do! If you are looking for more laidback fishing villages, the north coast is full of quiet ocean towns. The west side of the island is home to a protected national park. We of course, did not get the time to do everything that Bali has to offer!

When to Visit Bali

When is the best time to visit Bali? This answer depends on what you are looking for, but one of the best things to do is align your visit with Bali’s dry season, which lasts from April to October.

We opted to go to Bali in a shoulder season, mid-October through November because we were trying to avoid the tourist areas being over crowded. We only ended up with about 2 days where it rained the entire day.

Languages in Bali

In Bali, the main languages are Indonesian and Balinese, but most people (especially in tourist areas) speak very good English. We did not run into any problems or language barriers during our one month visit to Bali.

As a rule, it is always nice to learn some common words and phrases in the local language, such as please, thank you, and nice to meet you. Not only do locals get excited to see foreigners trying to speak the language, but it is a great way to break the ice.

For the first lesson, “thank you” is “suksma”.

How to Get to Bali

Bali is an island in Indonesia, so prepare to hop on a flight into the Denpasar Airport on the island. It depends where you are coming from, but within the United States, we found the cheapest flights were leaving out of Los Angeles, California. We had a layover in Tokyo, Japan and Jakarta, Indonesia before landing in Bali. Be prepared for lots of flight time!

Where to Stay in Bali

Bali has tons of accommodation options for every budget! We used Booking.com to find all of our budget friendly accommodations, but they have wonderful options for every type of budget. You can stay in hostels to luxurious villas and resorts with private infinity pools!

How to Get Around Bali

We rented a scooter for the entire month we were in Bali, and this was actually cheaper to rent for the whole month, rather than for a few days or a week. The cost ended up coming out to $2.60 USD per day.

With that being said, the traffic in Bali can get pretty insane. If you are not comfortable with driving a scooter, I do not recommend trying it for the first time in Bali! I am not exaggerating when I say that the traffic is zooming in every which way. With the mix of vehicles and scooters on the sometimes very tight roads, it creates some chaos.

If you don’t feel confident in your scooter driving abilities, no worries, you can use Grab or Gojek. These apps are just like Uber, and if you are by yourself, you can even order a Grab Scooter driver for cheaper prices.

Bali Costs

If you are planning to visit Bali, you are probably wondering “How much does Bali cost?” Well, there is no simple answer to this question because it is possible to visit Bali for very cheap or spend thousands of dollars on a more luxurious Bali vacation.

At the time of this blog post, the conversion from Indonesian Rupiah (IDR) to U.S. Dollar (USD) is 1 USD=14,882.75 IDR.

4 Weeks Road Trip in Bali

Week 1: Canggu, Bali

Canggu was our very first destination in Bali. There are tons of digital nomads that call Canggu home, and as a result, there are endless amazing café and restaurant options. Canggu is also a great destination for surfers!

Canggu is a great laidback place with black sand beaches, surfing, amazing food, and people from all over the world. What else do you need?

Week 2: Nusa Penida & Nusa Lembongan

It works out great to head to Nusa Penida after Canggu because the fast ferries aren’t too far from Canggu! The Nusa Islands are so incredibly beautiful, you do not want to go to Bali and skip out on visiting them!

For some of the most amazing beaches, views, and snorkeling be sure not to skip out on the Nusa Islands!

Week 3: Ubud, Bali

After returning from the Nusa Islands, hop on your scooter or order a grab, and drive around 40 minutes north to Ubud!

Ubud is the cultural center of Bali, and such a beautiful and unique destination. You cannot go to Bali without a visit to Ubud! Between the bustling downtown, monkey forest, ancient temples, rice terraces, waterfall hikes, and rainforest views there is so much to see and do in Ubud.

Week 4: Uluwatu, Bali

Uluwatu was about an hour and a half drive from Ubud. If you only have one week in Bali and are looking for beautiful beaches, go to Uluwatu! It is a top destination for surfers and with the cliff top views and laid back vibes, it creates a relaxed and beautiful destination!

If you do not have a full month to spend in Bali, no worries you can still have an amazing vacation! I would pick a couple destinations to explore so that way you do not feel too rushed! Any of the 4 destinations above would be great!
